Edward is an electrochemist with a PhD in solid oxide fuel cells from Imperial College. He worked for 4 years at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) where he developed in situ measurement techniques for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells and electrolysers, most notably pioneering a unique multi-reference electrode apparatus for mapping electrode potential and studying degradation mechanisms.

After a year in France at the Institut Francais du Petrole working on membranes for CO2 electrolysis, Edward moved to Glasgow in 2016 and joined the Cronin Group where he is leading the Devices team and developing systems for hydrogen generation and energy storage using electron-coupled proton buffers.
