I have been a technician for nearly 30 years, with a background in inorganic and organic synthesis, instrument and laboratory design, construction, installation and maintenance. Over the years I have gained experience in a wide variety of analytical and synthetic methods. These range from nmr, ICP-MS, electrochemical and thermal methods in analysis to inert atmosphere and moisture sensitive methods in synthesis. I started as a trainee in 1983, moved to technician in 1986, working with Dr. R.D.Peacock on azomacrocycles and spectroscopy. From early 1986 to 1993 I worked part time with the departmental nmr service providing a routine and multinuclear nmr service. In 1991 I worked with Prof. J.M.Winfield on the chemomechanical polishing of semiconductor surfaces. I have worked with the Cronin group since 2002 until 2008 on a part time basis, moving to full time with the group in April 2008.
