Alexander (Alex) Hammer

Postgraduate Student

I completed my B.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg. I did my bachelor thesis with Prof. Samir Zard working on new cascade reactions for natural product synthesis. After gaining some initial work experience in industry (i.a. Data mining in Materials Science), I went on to do my Master with Prof. Chris Abell at the University of Cambridge working on fragment-based approaches in antitubercular drug discovery. In February 2019 I started my PhD in the Cronin group as part of the Chemputer Team. I’m interested in autonomous systems for the exploration of chemical space. Outside of the lab, I enjoy hiking, cinema, wine & good food, and kitchen table discussions.
