Dr. Michael Saleeb

Post Doctoral Researcher

I completed my MSc and PhD in organic chemistry at Umeå University, Sweden under the supervision of Prof. Mikael Elofsson working on several multidisciplinary projects – this includes carbohydrate synthesis, identification of novel antiviral and antibacterial agents, synthesis of compounds library, high-throughput screening and total synthesis of polyphenols natural products. In late 2018, I was fascinated with the concept of dancing electrons of the photoredox catalysis and the automation of organic synthesis. Thus, I approached Prof. Fredrik Almqvist at Umeå as a research associate to apply photoredox catalysis for the expansion of the biologically interesting 2-pyridone scaffold. In summer 2019, I moved to Karolinska Institutet, Sweden as a postdoc researcher in Prof. C. Ibanez group and in collaboration with CBCS-Scilifelab facility to work on small molecules targeting the death receptor p75NTR. In the meantime, my proposal for a postdoc research was awarded from the Swedish Research Council to join Prof. Lee Cronin’s group to work on the development of an automated platform for photocatalysed organic synthesis.

Outside the laboratory, I enjoy football, chess, volleyball, playing keyboard and squash.
