  • Smita and Steve's paper "Improved Background Suppression in 1H MAS NMR using Composite Pulses" has been accepted for publication in J. Magn. Reson.

  • After two years of considerable effort by many people, the book "NMR of Quadrupolar Nuclei in Solid Materials", edited by Steve, Rod Wasylishen and Sharon Ashbrook, has gone off to the printers and is due to be published in July 2012 by Wiley [See Front Cover].

  • Steve, Hernan, Smita and Nicole attended the 2nd Annual Symposium of the UK 850 MHz Solid-State NMR Facility on 29 March 2012, which was held this year at the University of Warwick. Steve gave a talk entitled "Improved Background Suppression in MAS NMR using Composite Pulses", which was based on research work performed by Smita.

  • Congratulations to Akiko Sasaki for being runner-up in the BSc research poster competition held on 23 March 2012. Her prize-winning poster was entitled "Molecular Dynamics and Solid-State NMR Studies of Guest Molecules in Open-Framework AlPO Materials".

  • Smita and Hernan presented lunchtime talks on their research work to the Physical Chemistry section here in Glasgow on 2 and 15 March 2012, respectively.

  • Smita and Steve's paper "Use of Composite Refocusing Pulses to form Spin Echoes" has been published in J. Magn. Reson. [Get Reprint]. On the basis of this paper, Steve has been invited to speak at the SMASH NMR conference in Providence, Rhode Island, in September 2012.

  • Malcolm Levitt's group have put some amusing vector-model animations of several composite pulses on their website. The pulse with the highest level of error compensation is one of Steve's (J. Magn. Reson. A 109, 221-231 (1994)).
