The absorption (purple) and CD (red and blue) spectra were taken at the Nd L3 edge of two enantiomorphic single crystals of Na3Nd(glycolate)3.2NaBF4.6H2O on beam line 12 (ID12A) at ESRF. The CD spectra have been multiplied by a factor of 100.

The 2p -> 4f pure quadrupole transition, which can not be seen in the isotropic absorption spectrum, is clearly seen in the CD spectra at ~6210 eV.
The XANES-CD spectra (6220 - 6250 eV) are due to multiple scattering along chiral paths, while the EXAFS spectra, dominated by single scattering pathways, show essentially no circular dichroism.
