Professor
Jackson graduated from Glasgow University in 1976 with a B.Sc.(Hons.)
and 1979 with a Ph.D. He was an ICI postdoctoral research fellow
at Hull University for three years before joining ICI plc in
1982.
For the next 18 years Professor Jackson was a
senior scientist with ICI, his last role was that of Synetix RT&E
Group, Strategic Technology Manager, with a remit for the development
of new science areas. During his time at ICI, Professor Jackson
worked closely with chemical engineers and scientists from other
disciplines and had experience of setting-up and managing multi-centre,
multi-discipline research projects. Professor Jackson spent a
year as a business development manager, analysing technology trends and
advising on future scientific and commercial developments in process
chemistry.
He joined the University of Glasgow in 2000
as Professor of Catalysis Science. Since 2000 he has been
involved in academic research specialising in hydrogenation (both 2-
and 3-phase), dehydrogenation, base catalysis, and catalyst
deactivation. His research laboratory houses a suite of reactors
and in operando characterisation facilities that are unique and
outperform many industrial facilities. Professor Jackson has over
150 publications in the area of catalysis, and is an author of 13
