I completed a MSci in Chemistry and Bioorganic Chemistry at the University of Birmingham and then moved to the University of Glasgow in 2002 to undertake a PhD in inorganic transition metal cluster chemistry. After a short research position in Universiteit Leiden, NL, I moved back to Glasgow to work on complex systems chemistry and inorganic biology. My research interests lie between non-linear systems chemistry, synthetic biology and engineering and I am especially interested in self-organising or self-growing materials.
