Oliver (Oli) Fisher
Postgraduate Student
I’m originally from Birmingham, England, and studied at the University of York, where I completed an integrated Master’s in Chemistry (Biological and Medicinal Chemistry) with a Year Abroad. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with Dr Jon Agirre on a mini-project developing Fletcher, a code for identifying structural motifs in unknown Protein Data Bank files. I also completed an internship with Dr Alan Lewis, where I developed Python-based simulations of Dyson orbitals to enable more accurate modelling of angular-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) experiments.
As part of the Year Abroad programme, I conducted my Master’s research at the Institute of Science Tokyo in Japan, focusing on the oxidative photoinactivation of target proteins and its application to photodynamic therapy.
When not in the lab, you can probably find me working on some random craft project, lost on a mountain or out socialising with friends
