History:  The northern protein structure workshop has now been running for 20 years. From Loch Lomond, to Pitlochry and Galashiels the meeting has happily settled in Carlise for the last seven years, providing a convenient location for all structural biology laboratories in the North of the UK.  

Aim:  The aim of this meeting has not changed in the last 20 years which is simply to increase communication between research laboratories through the informal exchange of results and techniques. In particular we aim to provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in order to encourage the younger members of our labs to present their results and contribute to the discussions. Therefore, we ask all students to submit a title for a talk, remembering that work in progress is very much welcome and often stimulates the best discussions.  

Subject of talks:   Participants presentations are welcomed on ANY work related to protein structure (including expression and purification as well as crystallisation and structural determination). They DO NOT have to be directly related to the year's theme. 15 minutes is allocated per talk with 5 minutes discussion time to follow. 

Poster session:   This year we are offering the opportunity to present your work on a poster as well as signing up for a talk. This is NOT meant as a replacement for talks, as we hope everyone will still be willing to present their work, but it offers an opportunity to discuss your work, under less public conditions. The poster can be covering the same work as your presentation or be unrelated. Posters may have been presented elsewhere.
