Epitaxial Seeding:
The two crystal forms have a lattice plane in common, but the planes may
be packed more tightly together. As is shown diagrammatically in two
dimensions below.
To effect an epitaxial jump supersaturated conditions are established
at various points along the solubility curve for the same
or even a different precipitant.
This method is used to try to obtain crystals of complexes of
higher diffracting crystals by selecting higher precipitant conditions.
