The Murrie Research Group

Biography

Mark obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester for research on the synthesis and characterisation of copper and zinc model complexes, to elucidate the mode of action of corrosion inhibitors, under the supervision of Professor Dave Garner FRS and Professor David Collison.

He then carried out a post-doctoral fellowship with Professor Richard Winpenny at the University of Edinburgh (1997-1999), working on high temperature synthetic routes to polynuclear chromium complexes, and on the use of carboxylate ligands to control the growth of manganese oxy-hydroxides in solution.

Mark undertook further post-doctoral research in Switzerland with Professor Hans Güdel at the University of Berne (1999-2003). His research was focussed upon the synthesis of nickel- and cobalt-based molecular nanomagnets, and on inelastic neutron scattering (INS) of nanomagnets.

In September 2003 he moved to the University of Glasgow and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry in 2009.
