Dr. Michael Jirasek

Post Doctoral Researcher

I was born in the Czech Republic in 1991. I did my undergraduate studies in Chemistry (Bc) and Organic Chemistry (MSc) at UCT Prague (2010–2016), working with F.Teply and R.Cibulka on various organo-chemical problems (spontaneous deracemization, photochemistry, etc.). During the time I spend an extra year at ETH Zurich on internship with Francois Diederich making carbon-rich supramolecular cages.

In 2016, I joined group of Harry Anderson in the University of Oxford to pursue my PhD (2016-2019) and I stayed for short postdoc after (2020). With Harry, I was working on synthesis and analysis of large porphyrin-based macrocycles and study of (their) aromaticity. In 2021, I spent another year in Switzerland on postdoc with Helma Wennemers at ETH, where I worked on oligoproline-based MOFs and other supramolecular architectures.

In January 2022 I joined the Cronin group. I kicked off my work here working in the A-life team.

Outside of work I spent time with my family (wife and 3 kids) and exploring the Scottish nature and language.
